Folium of Descartes.

The folium of Descartes is a curve that was first proposed and studied by René Descartes in 1638.

The equation of the folium of Descartes in Cartesian coordinates is

x2+y23axy=0x^2+y^2-3axy=0

In polar coordinates, the equation of the folium of Descartes is given by

r=3asinθcosθsin3θ+cos3θr=\frac{3a\sin \theta \cos \theta}{\sin^3 \theta + \cos^3 \theta}
