A measure of the precision of a numerical quantity, usually given to nn significant figures (proportional accuracy) or nn decimal places (absolute accuracy).

Example: π=3.14159265359…\pi = 3.14159265359…

Round π to 3 significant figures: 3.143.14.

Round π to 3 decimal places: 3.1423.142.
