Acceptance sampling is a statistical measure used in quality control. It allows a company to determine the quality of a batch of products by selecting a specified number for testing. The quality of this designated sample will be viewed as the quality level for the entire group of products.
The most simple method is to have a straight reject/accept criterion, but a more sophisticated approach is to take another sample if the evidence from the existing sample, or a set of samples, is not clearly indicating whether the batch should be rejected or accepted. One of the main advantages of this approach is reducing the cost of taking samples to satisfy quality control criteria.
